LCMCS Name Change

LCMCS Name Change

Lupine Community Montessori Charter School wasn’t always known by this name. For many years, we were Lewis & Clark Montessori Charter School, located in Damascus, Oregon. During that time, our community grew—students, families, and educators came together to create an environment rooted in curiosity, independence, and compassion.

As we evolved and later relocated to Gresham, Oregon, it became clear that our school had entered a new chapter. The move brought new faces, new energy, and a deeper sense of belonging within the local community. With this change came an important question: what name truly reflects who we are now?

The answer came from the students themselves. In true Montessori spirit, we invited them to lead the process. They researched, discussed, and reflected on what represents our shared values and environment. Ultimately, they chose the name “Lupine Community Montessori Charter School.”

The lupine flower, native to the Pacific Northwest, symbolizes resilience, growth, and renewal—qualities that mirror our school’s journey. It also honors the natural beauty surrounding our Gresham campus and our commitment to nurturing children who care for the world around them.

Today, the name Lupine Community Montessori Charter School (LCMCS) celebrates not only where we are, but who we are: a community that learns together, grows together, and blooms together.
